Call for Rowers

The racing season is upon us! And so too is the call for racers.

The Grey Buzzards are heading down to New London, CT to row in the Connecticut Maritime Heritage Festival to represent us and the NBWM in the Beetle boat on Sept 12th. They are planning a reunion of all the wooden whaleboats from the Charles W Morgan Homecoming. But the Buzzards are down one rower.

Would you like to participate, spectate or help out in any way? Please contact Louie at loubuzzard@hotmail.com or myself at mark@incabinated.com.

The New London likes to call itself the whaling city, but I’d like to remind them that they are just “a” whaling city, while we are “THE” Whaling City. Let’s show them what we’re made of!

(I know! I know it’s a dangling participle! But “Let’s show them of what we are made!” just doesn’t have the same gravitas)

Thanks!

Rowing Whaleboats in San Francisco

Bridget and your very own Vice Admiral of the Narrow Seas had the great opportunity to row a Monomoy whaleboat out on San Francisco Bay. We couldn't have had a more wonderful time with such a great group of people! Thanks SO much to Oliver, the crew and the Embarcadero Rowing Club to let us join you on Sunday! You're welcome in New Bedford anytime!

Spring Kick-Off Party

Don't forget, our seasonal kick-off party is held on this Friday, April 10th at the Waterfront Grille in New Bedford at 6:00pm. This is a fun relaxed event to get the season started. We have raffle items, new tee's and gear for sale. It's a wonderful time to reacquaint everyone and kick around ideas for the upcoming season. Hope to see you there!

HLM's 2016 Snow Row, has been rescheduled to Saturday, March 21, 2015, the first day of spring! Record breaking snow fall, high winds, and extreme temperatures have clobbered our peninsula leaving behind immense mountains of snow and much of Boston Harbor icebound. All this ice and snow is bound to melt eventually so we're crossing our fingers that those few extra weeks will find our shores in better shape.

Also remember, back by popular demand, the Snow Row Spectator Boat, Boston Harbor Cruise catamaran Aurora, is a perfect spot to follow the wild and wooly Snow row from start to finish. Boarding begins at 10:00 am at Pemberton Pier in Hull with the boat shoving off at 10:45 to witness the one-of-a-kind LeMans racing start. Spectator boat tickets are available on line or available on race day at the pier.
